Fluid dreams
Fluid dreams is an exploration of the fluid and transient nature of perception, inspired by the landscapes of the subconscious mind. Combining Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), abstract composition, and post-production enhancements, this collection by Benoît Theunissen blurs the boundaries between reality and dreamlike realms. Through ICM, the camera is deliberately moved during long exposures, creating flowing, abstract forms that mimic the unpredictable and dynamic quality of dreams. These movements transform everyday scenes into ethereal compositions of light and color, evoking a sense of motion and fluidity.
The collection's abstract nature removes clear subjects, focusing on lines, shapes, and colors that invite open interpretation, encouraging viewers to project their emotions and experiences onto the imagery. The swirling, organic forms reflect the malleability of the subconscious, aligning with Carl Jung's theories of the unconscious and Tibetan Buddhist philosophies of impermanence. Both frameworks emphasize the fluidity of reality, where nothing is fixed, and everything is in constant transformation.
Fluid dreams explores the essence of movement and the shifting landscapes of thought and perception. Through this series, Benoît invites viewers to reflect on the ever-changing nature of their own realities, much like the dreamscapes that unfold within the mind.
